Young, dynamic and fast growing.
Today, every other company claims these qualities for itself. Whether these words apply to Tieto, we wouldn’t like to say. We have young people fresh out of school and professionals with decades of experience working for us. We respond quickly to changes, but we also have stable projects whose complexity requires us to move forward with incremental changes, very carefully thought through.
And are we growing fast? Hard to say. Is more than 2,000 employees in the last ten years a little or a lot? What we can say for sure is that we are a company that really cares about the people who work for us. We are well aware that work is not everything. We strive to create the conditions that will allow colleagues to work on projects that they really enjoy, while at the same time allowing them to focus fully on their personal lives.
But whatever we tell you, come and check us out for yourself. And that goes for both women and men. So let us know who you are, and we’ll get back to you and answer all your questions. Or you can come visit us and take a look at the work we actually do. No strings attached.

What brought you to Tieto?
For many years I had been working in the media. First as a reporter for local newspapers and then later in the regional newsroom of Czech Radio I wanted to try something new and a friend recommended Tieto to me. I applied for a vacant position as communications specialist and got the job. I’ve been working at Tieto since February 2007.
What was your first impression of the company?
When I joined the company, there were already more than 600 people working here. The company then moved out of the building of the regional office and came to the Ostrava Science and Technology Park. In a very short time I had to get used to a completely different style of work, learn to use new tools and follow new policies and processes. The Nordic corporate culture came as a very pleasant surprise. For example, “decency” and “confidence” have never been just buzzwords at Tieto.
Was working at Tieto Czech any different then from what it is now?
For me personally, it was different from anywhere else I had worked in the Czech Republic. I was meeting a lot of remarkable people, introducing them to others and getting to know Tieto myself. Everything was new to me. Today I see Ostrava as part of a greater whole. We have gone through several organizational changes and are still constantly having to adapt to the world outside. Technology is changing and evolving, and customers are demanding high quality products and services at a low cost. A company that focuses exclusively on IT will never succeed. We have to offer more: business process expertise and consultancy services, for example.
What exactly do you do at Tieto, Lukáš?
A Customer Experience project manager leads projects and gives teams support, so they can deliver to our customers top quality solutions.
What do you enjoy most about working at Tieto?
I like working with people from whom I can learn. There’s always an opportunity at Tieto to meet interesting people. I like to seek out and create opportunties to expand our existing business, and by doing this acquiring interesting jobs for the people around me.
Where did you start at Tieto? What position did you have and when was this?
I joined Tieto in 2012 as an intern in the role of Business Intelligence Specialist. At the time I was finishing the final year of my bachelor’s degree.
How many jobs did you have before you reached your current position?
There were quite a number. But if I had to summarize, I would say that before I started managing projects I was always working with data. From data integration to statistical analysis.
What was your first position? And what project did you work on first?
When I joined Tieto, I started out as a developer of solutions for the forestry industry and my first project was a WPS corporate information system for saws. It’s still being used today. I have essentially spent my entire professional life dealing with the Forest & Paper Industry.
Right from the off you were participating in internships abroad. How did they go?
I was an intern in Tampere in the summer of 2004. It was introductory training for my first project at Forest Industry, and the method used was essentially to pick it up as you go along. In practice, this meant packing your things, going to a place where you didn’t know anyone and then having two weeks to deliver to the customer, after which you moved on to another place, and after that another. There’s no better school than this. By the way, it struck me that even the cleaning ladies in Finland spoke far better English than any of the univeristy graduates in Ostrava. The Finnish education system has my respect.
How do you think Tieto has changed in the last ten years?
There’re a few more of us – nearly two thousand more people than there were ten years ago. The company has undergone and is still undergoing some development. I personally feel that the last two years have been very positive: we’ve seen enormous progress in making sure that there are more opportunities to participate in the future course of events, and getting involved is simpler, too. I sincerely hope not to miss out on this opportunity.
