From Silicon Valley to Ostrava…. How could it be that an American IT expert ends up in Ostrava, Byron?

I had travelled to the Czech Republic a lot in the last 10 years and I fell in love with the local lifestyle, culture and people. Although it is very different from what I was used to in the States, I believe it was the best choice I could make.

Since you’ve worked in Silicon Valley, can you compare the biggest differences, professionally and culturally, between Silicon Valley companies and Tieto? 

Lifestyles are obviously very different. Although both locations guarantee work-life balance. It’s not a given in the States, generally. TietoEVRY stands out in this respect. It provides IT professionals with challenging and satisfying work but also lets them catch their breath after a long day and gives them a chance to relax. You can rest in one of the many common rooms in the building or go out on a terrace for some fresh air. But it is not just about the environment, a big plus is the possibility to just switch off from work from time to time.
