What was your first position? And what was your first project?
I started at Tieto as a developer in the forest industry and my first project was an enterprise information system WPS for saws. It is still being used today. Come to think of it, I have been involved in the Forest & Paper Industry my whole professional life.
You took part in a training programme abroad when you first started. What was it like?
It was a traineeship in Tampere, in the summer of 2004. It served as initial training when I started with the Forest Industry project and it was in the form of learning as you go. That means you pack up your bags, arrive in a place where you do not know anybody, get an assignment which is due in two weeks and then the next one and then the next. It was the best training ever. Apart from that, I was astonished by a cleaning lady´s level of English which far outstrips an Ostrava University graduate´s English. I have great admiration for the Finnish education system.
In your opinion, how has Tieto changed in the last ten years?
Well, there are a lot more of us now, almost two thousand more than ten years ago. The company has evolved and is still evolving. The last two years were especially positive I believe. There has been much advancement in the possibility to be more easily involved in the way things will be run in the future. I hope we will not squander this opportunity.
